Since i'm gonna be talkin' about books, the language will be english.
I've noticed that i have a lot of hits from foreign countrys and i feel bad about writing in romanian, so from now on, i'll try to post in romanian and english, so everybody can understand. But the thing is, i don't mind having you guys talk to me, leave a comment if you liked the post, or not. That way you'll be helping me too, with your feedback.
So don't be shy, or lazy! *sticks her tongue out like a silly brat*
And now, back to business! I bumped into these books by accident. I was just "surfing" the internet, looking for something when a book really REALLY red caught my eyes. It was shamelessly twinkling her eyes at me so i read the description and i was like "...mah, same ol' ,same ol' vamps! Movin' on now."
Give me a tormented bad boy who awaits his charming bad ass princess to rescue him from loneliness, and i'm dead to the world. And i kinda was because all september i was too busy with real life and reading Black Dagger Brotherhood.
Did I get addicted?
But it's only because the Brothers are a girl’s fantasy come true.
I mean c'mon, doesn't every girl grow up fantasizing about a guy who is tough and cool but has a soft spot for you?
Everybody's scared of him, except for you, because he loves you like a mad man.
Snapping somebody's neck while he's buying you flowers and chocolate. *sighs like a drama queen*
I want that!!! All of it! ♥♥♥
So people, meet the BLACK DAGGER BROTHERHOOD.
~part II here~
- Dark Lover
- Lover Eternal
- Lover Awakened
- Lover Revealed
- Lover Unbound
- Lover Enshrined
- Lover Avenged
- Lover Mine
- Lover Unleashed
- Lover Reborn
And two more books, but i'm gonna talk about them later, so have a little patience.
I also want to mention that the author picked out some odd names for the Brothers, each one of them with their set of deeeeeeep issues and gifts. There's also another language mentioned there (leelan, shellan, hellren, doggen, lesser, challa, etc) , they call it the Old Language. But you have a glossary at the end of the book, so no need to stress out.
The series is a paranormal romance about a group of warriors, vampire warriors, who are all terrifically hurt, some of them with deep traumas, all happened before and after their transition, and each one of them are waiting for their soul mate. What makes this series great is that they find and "bond" with their females almost instantly, in each book. No beating around the bush, waiting and wondering who's gonna end up with who. It's love at first sight for them ...and well, that means a lot of early love scenes, not waiting till the last page to get some action. -if you know what i mean-
The constant push-and-pull, the "baggage" each character carries, the strong emotions and sacrifices all of them make at some point, even their shellans, all of that, makes these books to kick ass.
And that's coming out from me!!! *let's just say i read, but not always like it*
The author juggles multiple plots with each book and that's why you have to read them in order. As an example, the story of Marissa and Butch, aka the Cop, begins in book one, and you end up reading their story in book 4.
That's giving the reader a deeper connection to all characters involved in the brotherhood, and outside of it, not just the main story/the main relationship, described in each book.
And well, you'll also want to rip your hair out 'cause the jumping between story lines happens at cliff hangers and you find yourself tearing up the pages to see the outcome. Ain't that nice? :))
J.R. Ward continues her plots over multiple books and that way, you feel like you're not giving up the characters after their book is over. It's refreshing to read a series like this, and that way, you find yourself loving the brothers even more.
The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams."
This book is mostly about Wrath -The Blind King-, the king of the vampire race, and Beth.
Oh man, this dude is so hot, so intense, and so very insane!
He's arrogant and aggressive, smart, passionate and possessive, all wrapped up in six foot six and 235 pounds ,that's like 1,98m. And did i mention he kicks ass being almost blind? The title ain't just for kicks and giggles folks.
He's the best king in my mind. Period.
And Beth, she's a kick ass woman too. She's strong, even from the begining, you'll see what i'm talking about.
She's also smart and i love how she keeps in a leash her man *not that Wrath minds that* .They love and respect each other. A shellan is the beating heart of the bonded males.
The story begins with Darius and Thor, waiting for Wrath to ask him to take care of her daughter, to help Beth through her transition, because she's still a human and she needs a male with her when her change strikes. The problem is that Beth, has absolutelly no idea she's a vampire, being raised by foster parents in the human world. Darius still watched over her, as she grew old, but her transition is inevitable, and wants to make it as easier as possible. That's when Wrath comes into the picture, him being the last purebred vampire left on earth.
But when the two of them meet, sparks fly, instant attraction.
Beth is entering a world where the vampire race is almost extinct, and also at war with the lessers. Will Beth have the strength to stay beside Wrath and lead the fading race and also fight for their love? It's a strong, warm and fun romance to watch grow. You won't be dissapointed with this book.
Not to mention the pain-in-the-ass brothers ....and Butch *btw, his name is Brian O'Neal, Butch is just a nickname, or Cop, as the brothers like to call him. He's just so funny when he's around Marissa, you're gonna love them. The chemistry between the brothers and him is awesome too. Their endless banter just brightens up the darkness. It's fun! You're gonna laugh your ass out!
And bottom line: you're gonna love it all!
Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetites. He's the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover - for inside him burns a ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Owned by this dark side, Rhage fears the time when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him.
Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world and reliant to Rhage's protection. With a life-threatening curse of her own, Mary is not looking for love. She lost her faith in miracles years ago. But when Rhage's intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves..."
Okay, saying that i loved this book is an understatement.
Rhage is such a womanizer.
I really didn't know if I would like him or not.
I mean, let's be serious here, who likes a guy who has an appetite for women, like he has for food ...or kick some lesser ass? No woman, especially one that is insecure and regards herself, there's no way of putting this mildly, UGLY.
But, as the storyline progressed and his true nature starts to reveal itself, he is easily one of my favorite heroes now, and as i finished all the books, he's still my favorite.
For such a bad-ass, he was so tender and loving with Mary. His sacrifice at the end for her was amazing. He is worthy of a happily ever after. He is also kinda childish and really funny. You may consider him the mood-maker in the brotherhood.
With his boyish charm, playboy model good looks, funny and fiercely loyal, hell, he's every woman's fantasy!
Except for one thing: the Scribe Virgin cursed our golden boy Hollywood, and now bears the mark of a dragon, inside and out. The only way to keep himself level, to tame his beast is with violence or sex. And oh boy, he hates himself for that! The continuous struggle to keep from harming those closest to him, because once the beast is out, even the brothers fear for their lives. The beast does not recognize friend from foe.
Also, you can get you tissues out girls, you may drop a few tears here and there.
Who knew that the womanizing warrior could love someone like Mary. What I also loved was the fact that Mary was a little hesitant with Rhage. She didn't just fall into his arms because of his looks and reputation.
She is a smart woman, i'll give her that.
It was hard, it would've been for anyone, but when you struggle with your leukemia and, kind of a monotonic life, you get a little hard at the edges. She comes a long way to try and trust Rhage, simply allowing herself to love and be loved.
Can't blame the girl for being cautious, right?!
Rhage and Mary's love story is well done, heartbreakingly sweet but also erotic as hell!
We also have a twist in the book. We get to meet John, but you'll find out more about him later.
Bella, Mary's friend discovers John as one of her own, and when Bella visits the Brotherhood compound, not only Mary finds her love, Bella too.
She meets the brother Zsadist *who i find intriguing and fascinating*.
He is the most complex character of this series. Bella is irresistibly drawn to Zsadist, who of course, pushes her away even though he feels attracted to her the instant he lays his eyes on her.
Phury, Zsadist's twin brother, warns Bella that he is "ruined not broken" and she should leave him alone.
When the lessers kidnap Bella, Zsadist makes it his personal mission to find her, and he does not rest until he finds her, and when i say "not rest" ,i mean it literally. And that's what you're going to find in the next book, the story of Bella and Zsadist.
This series just gets better and better, the action never stops and if you like your paranormal romance, then you should keep reading.
Oh man, we're in for a treat in Lover Eternal!!!
Bella is instantly entranced by the seething power Zsadist possesses. But even as their desire for one another begins to overtake them both, Zsadist’s thirst for vengeance against Bella’s tormentors drives him to the brink of madness. Now, Bella must help her lover overcome the wounds of his tortured past, and find a future with her…"
Oh, my sweet peas and carrots!!!
I lost count on how many times the bottom on my stomach dropped out and sank somewhere down by my feet only to bungee jump right back up and fly straight through the top of my head in sheer delight.
Oh yeah, a neurotic roller coaster, that's what Lover Awakened is!
This is an amazing book and one of my favourite in the series.
"Lover Awakened" tells the painful story of Zsadist, a former blood slave and most feared member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
Yup, even his brothers sleep with one eye open when they're around him.
Zsadist is ooone hell of a scary guy!
After being stolen away as a baby from his
family and brother, Z becomes an abused blood slave of an aristocratic psycho vampire. He is hardened beyond his humanity, a sociopath who enjoys pain, yet can't handle any kind of contact, emotionally or physically. Not only his blood was taken against his will, he was also beaten, sexually abused by males and females. He is scarred, inside and out, pierced, tattooed, violent and illiterate.
One thing that i love about this character, is that he goes through so much, yet the psycho Mistress is not able to touch his soul. He may be a scarred son of a bitch, but he cares for his twin brother Phury, cares for the Brotherhood and he is loyal to the king. You will find out how his loyalty was tested at some point, i don't want to give too many spoilers.
In this book, you will find out more about his past and about his rescue; how Phury got him back, how he lost his leg in the process and how Z got his ugly scars.
In this book, a totally shocking loss occurs within the Brotherhood family. I really didn't expect that to happen, but when the lessers are involved, nothing good comes out of it i guess. It also affects the entire developement of this series. Such a shame. :(
Bella's the kind of female who grew up to have everything, but not quite. She has a taste for the bad boy within Z, but after going through some trauma herself with the lesser, the only person who wants to be with, the only one who can help her feel better is Zsadist. He also doesn't let anyone near her. It's a constant push-and-pull, Bella being frightened of him, yet she wants him; she considers Z the one for her and she begins to seduce him. Not easy when you didn't know what love and kindness was, all your life. Z feels dirty, unworthy of even being in the same room as Bella; he grows terrified and ultimately, he's pushing Bella into the arms of a male of worth, his twin brother Phury.
When Bella goes through her "needing", which one of the brothers will ease her pain?
They both need healing, need to overcome their past and let themselves love and live. And they will; they will find a happiness and a passion few are lucky to experience.
Z's the perfect bad boy: rough on the outside, wounded man in the inside, love, protection and warmth for his Nalla's.
This is a must-read romance!!! J.R. has definitely outdone herself here.
But fate curses him with the very thing he wants. When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkest force in the war. Left for dead, he's found by a miracle, and the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back, though even her love may not be enough to save him."
Do these books keep getting better, or what?? *sighs*
Okay, i admit, there were times when i wanted to strangle both of them, Butch and Marissa.
But hey, with the Cop's background and the sheltered life and innocent in many ways Marissa's, it's kinda understandable. They have circled each other for 3 books now, like a dog's running after his own tail.
So yeah, i gave them a break even though they drove me insane.
Even when they played 5 minutes kissing in the closet then jumped into the classic romance novel blunder: The-Wildly-Blown-Out-of-Proportion-Misunderstanding followed by The-Jump-to-a-Wrong-Conclusion.
...and THAT, for 3 freakin' books.
I really liked the developement of their characters; they're not the same as they were in book one. They both had grown and gained more experience, found themselves and found their love and respect for each other. It's like seeing a child grow: Butch finding his true familiy, his true place and what he's meant to do, and Marissa, finally growing a backbone.
I really love his interactions with the brothers too, here's one of my favorite quotes:
"V smiled, his eyes shiny as if he were too choked up. "Don't worry, I'm covered. So, I guess you're back, true?"
"And ready to rock and roll."
"For sure. I'm thinking about a future in contracting. Wanted to see how this bathroom was put together. Excellent tile work. You should check it."
"How about I carry you back to bed?"
"I want to look at the sink pipes next."
I think you'll even get to like Rehv, Xhex and the Moors; i personally, can't wait to get to Rehvenge's book.
This book is about love, true friendship, it's funny, has a lot of action, and man, Butch and V are the shit when they're together! =))
I really found myself laughing out loud a few times, especially when Butch was inducted in the Brotherhood and he just kept babbling in front of the Scribe Virgin, while the others were scared shitless. :))
Oww, and you'll love Nurse Vishous, really! :))
And the ending of the book, well, the usual J.R. Ward jaw-dropping awesome!
Yup, can't wait to talk about the half God, who shamelessly stole my heart. But that, in the next book, called "Lover Unbound".
Hope you get to read these books and leave a comment, tell me what you think about them.
Hugs and kisses from your Eva.
